Papers of Helen S. Lossing [manuscript], 1892-1912.

The collection contains letters and a document pertaining to autograph documents believed stolen by Benson John Lossing from the state archives in Richmond, Va., in 1865. The collection contains two letters from Mrs. Lossing. A letter to a Mr. [Charles?] Burns, 1892, discusses her husband's work in preserving the history of the country and takes issue with the statehood of Virginia, 1861-1865. A letter to Robert F. Wilkinson, 1897, concerns a law suit over ownership of autographs collected by her husband. Four letters from Wilkinson, 1897, and one from Stephen G. Guernsey, 1912, to Mrs. Lossing concern the suit and the state of Virginia's claims. With the collection is a list of autographs in Mrs. Lossing's possession [claimed by the state of Virginia?].
